The Ugly Onion Pizza | Vermont Food Photographer
I spent Saturday morning photographing the Ugly Onion Pizza Company as they whipped up nearly seventy pies in the three and a half hour span of the Waitsfield Farmer’s Market. The market, which is located in northern Vermont, is a food photographer’s dream come true. Every business is set up with beautiful local products.
One of the the unique things about the Ugly Onion is that they have no brick and mortar pizza place. Instead, they have two portable wood fired ovens that they use to cater events, festivals and markets. The company was founded a by two college students, and Max Buskey and Sam Ketchum. Both men have spent time working on small farms and enjoying the beautiful fresh produce of Vermont. This inspired them to create The Ugly Onion. They intend to grow their business while continuing to make delicious, locally sourced and healthy artisan pizza.
I love having the opportunity to photograph this kind of startup business. They are unique, they have an interesting brand, and they have a wonderful local quality product. My job as a food photographer is to capture the essence of this unique Vermont business, and portray it in an interesting and compelling light. And with a business like the Ugly Onion, my job is interesting and fun. I look forward to watching their business grow!
